Will I go to jail?
Imprisonment is a sentence open to the court for particularly serious examples of this offence; ie offences that occur over months or years or offences which have caused significant mental harm to the victim.
For less serious example of this offence, you may receive a fine or a Community Corrections Order.
What should I do?
If you are a suspect in relation to a stalking charge it is vitally important that you speak to a Solicitor before you speak to the police.
Police may not be able to prove your identity as the “stalker”, prove that you engaged in a course of conduct or prove that you had an intention to cause harm.
Make sure you get advice on how to deal with your record of interview before speaking to police.
